January 11, 2016 – driving and smaller houses

    Driving is a go…car

The cold has been good to us. Ice conditions have improved and we’ll now allow driving of vehicles up to ½ ton in the bay and on Roads A&B. 10 mph is max.

Rentals available:

  • 6-, 8-,10- and 14-hole deluxe sleeper houses
  • 8- and 10-hole day houses
  • 1- and 2-hole spear houses

Private houses up to 10×20 can now be moved out: to the bay and Roads A & B. That may expand come Friday so stay tuned.

Guys fishing the perch hole are doing well both yesterday and today. Over the weekend, the spear houses saw some northern action, and one group angling had 4 unders and threw back a nice 31” northern. Saw another guy land a nice northern on a tip up as the plow truck drove by. Not too many are targeting walleyes here in the bay, one couple had two smaller walleyes and another spearer saw two really nice ones go by.

Seeing lots of small perch minnows, so target those perch colors with your baits.

Ice conditions: Right now, we have 8-12” in bay. Roads A, B, and C are plowed and have about 12”. Main road is plowed to Road I but we have some cracks out there due to the cold weather. Depending on how they heal, Kevin may open Roads D, E, F, and I (currently 8-11”).

Be sure to stop in the office to check conditions before heading out!

January 4, 2016 It’s Getting Closer…

frozen ice fisherman

We are getting ready for the cold weather which will hopefully build enough ice to start getting more houses out. Ice is still variable, but we do have about 4 miles of roads plowed.

Snowmobile and 4-wheeler traffic are still ok. Unfortunately, we don’t anticipate allowing driving this weekend but we hope that after the cold sets in, perhaps by mid next week, that might change.

  • Right now, we have 6 ½ -11”” in bay. Main road is plowed to Road I
  • Roads A, B, and C are plowed and have about 8-10”
  • Roads E, F, and I vary from 6-9”

Rentals:

  • We should have a couple small (6- and 8-hole) sleeper houses out this weekend.
  • We have our day rental houses out and available.
  • Our rental spear houses are all out.

Really  not sure about small private houses, because there will be no driving this weekend and we anticipate having to move everything after the weekend due to snow. That means you’d be responsible to pay for the move/bank/block again.

Fishing reports are still sounding good. Folks are seeing lots of fish. One group speared a couple small northerns followed by a 30 incher. That was a fun one! Another group caught 8 walleyes Saturday evening, with one in the slot. 10’-14’ seems to be the favorite.

Spearers seem to be doing better with decoy minnows vs. artificial decoys and smaller suckers. Bigger minnows are doing well, too, for spearing and tip-ups here in the bay.

Happy New Year!

Still 7-9” in bay and on Roads A&B. Snowmobile and 4-wheeler traffic is still ok.   Ice is just not growing as quickly as we would like.

Out rental spear houses are all out, one-hole and two-hole houses with indoor bathroom, chairs, carpeted floors and heater.

Fishing reports are scarce, folks don’t like to stop in to tell us their stories this early in the year. What we are hearing is that the fish have been biting pretty well. Nice reports of northerns, walleyes, some small perch and a few dogfish. One group yesterday and a couple northerns angling in 3-13′ of water, a 3 lb and a 30″, on fatheads. If you are spearing, recommend some larger suckers for your decoys. Another group had two walleyes, a 12” and a 14” walleye down Road B. Nice healthy, fat fish.

We don’t expect to be driving vehicles or putting any sleeper houses out this weekend.

Spear Houses are all out!

Spear houses are all out, one-hole and two-hole houses with indoor bathroom, chairs, carpeted floors and heater.   Give us a call to book!   7-9″ in bay and on Roads A&B, snowmobiles and 4-wheelers still ok.   Don’t expect to have sleeper houses out this weekend.01df123d8946cfaabd1f182760596783bdb2e3bfe3

December 29, 2015

So grateful we didn’t get all the snow they kept promising us!   Ice is slowly building; we are looking at 7-9″ of ice in bay and down on Road A.   Status so far is portables, snowmobiles and 4-wheelers.   We are not ready for any wheeled houses.   Coming soon will be small houses.   Hopefully in the next couple of days we will have a couple small spear houses out.2015-12-28 11.09.40

Looking like winter out there!

We’re allowing snowmobiles and 4-wheelers in the bay and south a bit, down Road A.   Please don’t drill ON the roads.   Things might change quickly tomorrow depending on snow.
We anticipate being able to rent the smaller spear houses by Wednesday.

Ice and Fishing Report 12/27/15

December 27, 2015

Ice Conditions
Ice is varying a bit, from 6-8” in the bay. Kevin has been out marking Roads A and B and the main road.

Snowmobiles and 4-wheelers should be ok in the bay and on Roads A and B, but not past Hawkbill Point. The ice past Road B has just begun to freeze. We will keep checking on it. Hope for no more winds to blow it open or too much snow, either.

Our team is out packing the snow with snowmobiles and pulling a packer around to help, then drilling holes to flood the snow and encourage the freezing.

Nice 37″ northern

Fishing Conditions
Good action out in the bay and lots of activity. We had nice ones in the past few days, but not many reports since Christmas. Fish are nice and fat, and using a smaller presentation seems to be doing well for perch. Excited to see the perch activity! Good for the lake!
